米国式職業西洋相撲観戦的日常（５）
WWFが現在（2000/MAY/08現在)ストーンコールド
とアンダーテイカーという２大看板を負傷で欠きながら、快進撃を
続ける最大の原動力は"ザ･ロック”ことロッキー･メイビア
の人気にあると
いって過言ではないだろう。
ロックは父にロッキー･ジョンソン
、祖父にピーター･メイビアを持つ
プロレス一家の出身であり、１９７２年にカリフォルニア州ヘイワード
（近所ですね）生まれとプロレスのトップ選手としてはかなり若い
。
ロックは若いながら、すでに４回の世界王者獲得経験のあるベテランレスラー
でもある。４回の世界王者のうち３回はマクマホン･コーポレート
の一員
（すなわちヒール、悪役として）としてのものであったが、マクマホンと
袂を別った後は、おしもおされぬスーパースターの道を歩んでおり、
４月３０日に行われたPPV（有料TV)イベント、"Backlash"でトリプルHから
世界王者を奪取して、そのキャリアのひとつのピークを築いた感がある。
ロックの人気は、すでにハルク･ホーガンやストーンコールドの絶頂期にも
匹敵するものであり、サングラスにド派手なシャツのいでたちで右眉を
つりあげるその姿の露出はプロレスの世界にとどまらない。
自伝"The Rock says..."はニューヨークタイムズのベストセラーの
ノンフィクション部門で一位をしめ、人気TV番組"Saturday Night Live"や"Late Late Show",
"Tonight Show"への出演、２００１年公開の映画"The Mummy 2"への
出演とさまざまである。
ロック人気の秘訣はやはり、そのマイクパフォーマンス
にあるといえる。
自分でものをいうのに、いちいち"The Rock says..."と３人称で話す、その
話っぷりは、たしかに英語の不自由な私にも十分伝わってくるものがある。
ということで、その一例を紹介。これは"Backlash"でのトリプルHとのタイトルマッチ
を控えた、"RAW"の収録での控室でのインタビューにこたえたものである

maybe you are right. Maybe, just maybe, the Rock shouldn't fully trust "Stone Cold"
Steve Austin. Maybe, just maybe, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin shouldn't fully trust the Rock.
But make no mistake about it, Vince McMahon, there two things you can count it on.
Bet your bottom dollar, clear as crystal, dark as night, that the Rock and "Stone Cold"
Steve Austin are unified to know the fact that they can never trust
your candy ass!!

,and Vince McMahon, the second thing you need to remenber is this.
You think that Austin is going to be in the Rock's corner at Backlash to screw the
Rock, just like you did at the WrestleMania? (*3) NO. The Rock says this. Austin is
more of a man. If "Stone Cold" Steve Austin had something to say to the Rock,
then he'd say it to the Rock's face. And Vince McMahon, you go out there, and run your
mouth, run your mouth about how the Rock's road was paved by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin
and your candy ass, thus ininuating that the Rock has just had it easy. Well, let the
Rock clarify, Vince, the word easy. Vince McMahon, your daughter Stephanie is easy!

The Rock has never had it easy. Ever since the Rock lost WWF title,he has never had it easy.
Ever since the Rock lost WWF chanpionship, the Rock has kicked, the Rock has scratched,
the Rock has crawled. With every Rockbottom, with every People's Elbow,

about Austin's favarite expression, D.T.A.,Don't Trust Anybody

he's got his own expression. It's goes like this. Six days from nw at Backlash,
it's going to be the Rock and Triple-H to smack it down on Triple-H's candy ass .
The Rock says he's going to walk out of Backlash the champion, people's champion,

対するもの。

ビンスがロックを裏切っている。
